MASCOUTAH, ILL. — A southwestern Illinois military operation that manages the armed force’s shipping and transportation needs is getting a new commander.
Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin Dempsey are expected to attend Monday’s ceremony marking Gen. Paul Selva’s transition to lead the U.S. Transportation Command. The command is based at Scott Air Force Base.
Selva already heads the Air Mobility Command, which also is based at Scott near Mascoutah (muh-SKOO’-tuh).
Selva is succeeding retiring Gen. William Fraser III. Fraser had been in that position since October 2011.
A separate ceremony was planned Monday to observe Lt. Gen. Darren McDew’s replacing Selva as chief of the Air Mobility Command.
