How to enter
The Military Times #MilMonth Photo Contest is open to all U.S. active-duty, National Guard, and Reserve military personnel, U.S. military veterans and military retirees, and their authorized dependents ages 13 years or older at the time of entry. To enter, you’ll need to do two things:
1. Complete the entry form at www.militarytimes.com/milmonth. You’ll be asked to provide your name, age, email address, phone number, details about your military affiliation, Instagram username and the location where the photo was taken, and to agree to the official rules.
2. Post a military-themed photo illustrating military culture, family, service or the military’s humanitarian mission to Instagram and tag it @MilitaryTimes and #MilMonth.
Only one entry is allowed per person, so make it a good one — and get it to us by May 27.
Military community Instagrammers, it’s time to show the love.
May is National Military Appreciation Month, and we’re firing up a new Instagram account to help celebrate with a photo contest.
Just tag your favorite shot — just one — of military life and living with #MilMonth and @MilitaryTimes.
Your entry can be an old post or a new one, but it should celebrate what you love about the military and those who serve. And if you want, tag a few friends and encourage them to enter, too.
Some of the best shots will be featured in issues of Army Times, Navy Times, Air Force Times and Marine Corps Times and at www.militarytimes.com/milmonth. One randomly chosen winner will get an iPad mini.
If you’re new to Instagram, it’s easy to set up right on your mobile device. You can even link it to your Facebook account, and built-in filters add creative effects.
Pro tip: Try Snapseed, a free app from Google, for even more advanced editing options.
While Instagram allows you to capture new shots directly in the app, try to limit your contest submission to a shot from your camera roll. That will give it the best possible resolution and raise your likelihood of being featured in print.
And remember: Be sure your IG account is public so we can see your submission. The hashtag won’t work if your account is set to “private.” Alternatively, shoot it to us in a private post using Instagram Direct.
