Date set for master sergeant promotion list

A selection list containing the names of Regular Army soldiers recommended for promotion to master sergeant will be released Feb. 4.

The soldiers were recommended for advancement by a board that met Dec. 3-20. Originally slated to meet in October, the board was rescheduled because of the government shutdown.

The annual Active Guard and Reserve (Army Reserve) master sergeant board also met in December, but the Army has not yet announced a release date for the list.

Both boards conducted retention screenings under the Qualitative Management Program and Qualitative Service Program.

The QMP included retirement-eligible senior NCOs who had derogatory information added to their official file since their last promotion. The QSP screening included sergeants first class in military occupational specialties that are overstrength, or have stagnant promotion opportunity, or both.

The basic zone of consideration for the Regular Army promotion board included nearly 20,000 sergeants first class with dates of rank of Oct. 23, 2010, and earlier, and basic dates of Oct. 23, 1988, through Oct. 23, 2005. Soldiers with E-7 DOR of Oct. 16, 2009 and earlier were in the primary zone, while soldiers with DOR of Oct. 17, 2009 through Oct. 23, 2010 were in the secondary zone.

To qualify for promotion consideration, these soldiers had to be graduates of the Senior Leader Course.

Soldiers who accept promotion to master sergeant will incur a three-year service obligation.
