NEW LONDON, CONN. — The Coast Guard’s Barque Eagle has returned to its home port of New London after undergoing repairs in Baltimore.

The tall ship will stay in Connecticut for February before leaving in March for training sessions with the Coast Guard and National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration along the eastern seaboard.

The Eagle returned last week from a Coast Guard facility in Baltimore. Performed maintenance included a foremast overhaul that took three and a half months.

The Eagle is the only commissioned square-rigged ship in U.S. government service. The ship, 300 feet long with a 148-foot tall main mast, was originally launched in 1936 by Nazi-controlled Germany and was given to the United States as war reparations and rechristened.
