A Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., airman being held without bail in his wife’s death will next appear in court Jan. 28.

A local judge ordered Tech. Sgt. Rickey Massey Jr., 32, held without bail Jan. 21 to await the filing of criminal charges in the case.

Las Vegas police detectives discovered Massey’s wife, Theresa Rivera, 34, dead in the garage of the couple’s on-base home after receiving a call from Nellis security forces about 10:30 a.m. Jan. 17, the police department said in a news release.

Rivera appeared to have suffered blunt force trauma, police said. The Clark County coroner ruled she asphyxiated and called her death a homicide.

Detectives said the couple had been involved in a domestic dispute hours before her body was discovered.

Massey, an equipment maintenance element supervisor with the 57th Maintenance Squadron, arrived at Nellis last April, said a base spokeswoman, Tech. Sgt. Erin Worley.

Police said Massey had no prior criminal history in Las Vegas.

Massey’s arrest marks the second time in less than a year that a Nellis airman has been arrested in the death of his wife. Police last April charged Tech. Sgt. Jarom Boyes with murder in the shooting death of Staff Sgt. Melissa Boyes during a domestic dispute at the couple’s off-base home.

Boyes’ next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 27, with a trial date tentatively set for Feb. 3, according to Clark County court records.
