Tell us: How did chiefs' season stack up?

Last year, the Navy’s top sailor revamped time-honored chief initiation rites, saying the booze and mistreatment were more suited to a frat house than the ranks of today’s mess and officially “sundowning” the term “induction.”

Those changes unleashed a backlash led by retired chiefs, who contended that Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (AW/NAC) Mike Stevens was watering down traditions.

Navy Times wants to hear from chiefs-select those in the CPO mess who participated in the training this year.

How did the challenges and rituals of last year’s chiefs’ season stack up to those before? How do you respond to those who called it “watered down?”

Or do you feel the new training was better suited to the stresses and strain of being a professional CPO?

Please send your thoughts and experiences to staff writer Mark D. Faram at navylet@navytimes.com . And be specific. Your comments may be featured in an upcoming Navy Times article.
