OGDEN, UTAH — Air Force officials have identified an airman killed in a snowmobiling accident Sunday as 22-year-old Christopher Martinez.

Hill Air Force Base said in a news release Tuesday that Martinez was a ground radar journeyman. He joined the Air Force in March 2011, and was deployed to Southwest Asia from seven months earlier this year.

Weber County sheriff’s officials say Martinez died Sunday afternoon when the snowmobile he was riding rolled down a steep embankment in the Monte Cristo Range. He was snowmobiling with two other airmen and a civilian.

Officials say the rest of the group reached a road but couldn’t find their friend. They later found him pinned under a snowmobile and not breathing.
