OGDEN, Utah — Authorities say a 22-year-old airman who was stationed at Hill Air Force Base is dead after a snowmobiling accident over the weekend.
Weber County sheriff’s officials say the man was killed Sunday afternoon after rolling the vehicle while going down a steep embankment in the Monte Cristo Range.
The victim was part of a group of three airmen and a civilian that had been snowmobiling all day.
Officials say the rest of the group reached a road but couldn’t find their friend. They returned to the scene to find him pinned under a snowmobile and not breathing.
His name has not yet been released.
Sgt. Lane Findlay of the Weber County Sheriff’s Department said the riders had the proper safety equipment and appeared to be doing everything right when the accident happened.
