The Army plans to promote 5,305 soldiers to the ranks of sergeant through sergeant major in the Regular Army in December, the second-largest monthly allocation this year.

Senior noncommissioned officer sequence numbers and cutoff scores issued by Human Resources Command in late November authorized 38 promotions to sergeant major on Dec. 1, as well as 256 to master sergeant, 627 to sergeant first class, 1,506 to staff sergeant and 2,968 to sergeant.

The sergeant major promotions will reduce the 2013 selection list to 301 names; the 2012 master sergeant list to 245 names; and the 2013 sergeant first class list to 537 names.

Promotions to sergeant and staff sergeant will go to specialists and corporals in a pool of 14,613 promotable soldiers on the E-5 recommended list and 14,964 promotable sergeants on the E-6 list.
