The Blue Angels demonstration team has announced its 2014 schedule, which includes 65 shows and 34 locations.
The team kicks off March 15 with a show at Naval Air Facility, El Centro, Calif. and their season will wrap up with two shows Nov. 7-8 at their home base at Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla.
“Community outreach is key to connecting Americans to the military,” said Cmdr. Thomas Frosch, the team’s commanding officer and aerial flight leader in a Oct. 22 press release announcing the schedule. “Our performances provide a unique opportunity to inspire millions to connect with and support our service members.”
The schedule of the team was in limbo until Oct. 19, when funding was resumed for the Defense Department’s community outreach programs.
Funding is also back on for the fleet bands and the Leap Frogs, the Navy’s San Diego-based parachute demonstration team. Calls to the Leap Frogs seeking their new schedule were not immediately returned.
Community outreach funding will permit the return of Fleet Weeks, Navy Weeks and U.S. port visits.
■ Fleet weeks, which are very ship-focused, will be held in New York City; Port Everglades, Fla.; San Francisco; Seattle; and Portland, Ore.
■ Navy weeks, which include simulators, explosive ordnance disposal demonstrations and hometown sailors, are planned for Baltimore; Mobile, Ala.; Pittsburgh; St. Louis; Omaha, Neb.; and Dallas.
■ Port visits will take place in Baltimore; Mobile; New Orleans; Tampa, Fla.; Savannah, Ga.; New York; Boston; Camden, Maine; Philadelphia; and Los Angeles.
