GROTON, CONN. — A Navy submarine based in Groton is welcoming a new commanding officer.

A change of command ceremony for New Mexico is set for Monday at Naval Submarine Base New London.

Navy Cmdr. Todd Moore is replacing Navy Capt. George Perez, who returned to Groton last month after leading the submarine on its first deployment. The attack submarine traveled more than 34,000 miles over six months with stops in Norway, Scotland and Spain.

The Virginia-class sub was commissioned in 2010 and is the second Navy vessel to be named for New Mexico.
