The Army’s websites in Alaska were unavailable for more than 12 hours after a hardware failure, an Army spokesman said today. As of 3 p.m. EDT, the websites were still down.
Army technicians were replacing a faulty web server for U.S. Army Alaska, causing the sites to be available “intermittently,” said Eric Hortin, a spokesman for U.S. Army Network Enterprise Command at Fort Huachuca, Ariz.
The outages are not the result of a cyber attack, Hortin said.
A team from the 59th Signal Battalion, based at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, was, “on station working through issues,” Hortin said.
Soldiers’ access to email and the Internet were not effected, Hortin said.
Fort Wainwright spokeswoman Linda Douglass said she expected service to return to normal some time today.
