JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. — The military community at Joint Base Charleston is bidding farewell to commander Col. Richard McComb and welcoming a C-130 combat veteran in his place.

Air Force spokesman Col. Staff Sgt. William O’Brien said Col. Jeffrey DeVore is taking command of the installation in a ceremony scheduled Thursday.

The commander oversees Air Force and Navy facilities that bring together a community of some 86,000 airmen, sailors, soldiers, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, civilians, dependents and retirees.

During his recent commands at squadron and group level, DeVore has flown combat missions in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Horn of Africa and over the former Yugoslavia, among others.

McComb took command in Charleston in 2011 and now heads to an assignment at the Pentagon.
