MANCHESTER, N.H. — New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte has presented six military medals to a Vietnam veteran from Nashua.
Ayotte met Friday with William Murphy, a former sergeant first class with the Army’s 2nd Battalion 5th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division. He was a squad leader in combat.
Murphy was on active duty in Vietnam from 1970 to 1972. He continued to serve in the Army Reserve until 1985.
Murphy, who received the medals in Ayotte’s Manchester office, said he had misplaced them over time and contacted her office for help.
Surrounded by family and friends, Murphy was presented with the Bronze Star; Air Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award; National Defense Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon; and the Expert Badge with Rifle Bar.
He told WMUR-TV that he’s proud of his service and wanted to get the medals to eventually give to his son, Trevor.
