CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — The Marine Raider Association is scheduled to hold its annual reunion this week and is slated to visit with members of the Marine Corps Special Operations Command at Camp Lejeune.
The Raiders comprised four Marine Corps battalions during World War II.
Its members took part in the initial ground offensives against the Japanese and in nearly every island assault of the Pacific war. They are considered a precursor to the modern day special forces.
Marine Corps spokesman Staff Sgt. Robert Storm said the veterans are touring the Special Operations Command on Thursday and wrapping up with a banquet on Friday.
