LEXINGTON, OKLA. — Friends and family have welcomed home 38 Oklahoma National Guard members from their deployment to Afghanistan.

The ceremony was held Tuesday at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Lexington where the members of Detachment 1, Company C, 2nd Battalion, 149th General Support Aviation Battalion arrived after providing 335 medical evacuation flights on air ambulances.

The soldiers were deployed for 11 months, spending two months training in Fort Hood, Texas, and nine months in eastern and southern Afghanistan.

The deployment was the third combat deployment for the battalion since the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. In 2004 and 2005, it deployed to Afghanistan and in 2008 and 2009 was deployed to Iraq.
