TACOMA, WASH. — The U.S. attorney’s office in Seattle says an Army officer from Lacey used his position in Iraq in 2007 in an illegal contracting scheme.

The office said Harold L. Broek was chief of contracting in the Tikrit region. He set up a company that received contracts from an Iraqi company to which he awarded contracts.

The 49-year-old pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Tacoma and could face up to five years in prison when he is sentenced in October. The retired lieutenant colonel agreed to pay $52,000 in restitution.
