AIR FORCE ACADEMY, COLO. — The Air Force Academy says it understated the number of military personnel at the school in its annual report on spending.
Academy officials said Tuesday the correct number for fiscal 2012 is 6,022. That’s a decline of 411, or 6.4 percent, from the previous year.
Officials said the report on the school’s economic impact in 2012 incorrectly stated the number was 5,730. They blamed the error on the time of year the count was taken and on a data-entry mistake.
The report said spending on payroll and other categories, such as construction and services, totaled $662 million in fiscal 2012. That’s down $177 million, or 21.1 percent, from the previous year.
Academy officials said the spending numbers in the report are correct.
