Spec ops board to screen junior officers for transfer

Junior officers of the Regular Army who want to transfer to Special Forces, civil affairs or psychological operations have until March 31 to submit an application packet for the special ops accessions board that will meet in mid-April.

Year Group 2011 officers who are selected by the annual board will be given an opportunity to attend the Special Forces Assessment and Selection Course, or transfer from their commissioning branch to civil affairs or psychological operations.

These are non-accessions branches that only can be entered after an officer has been commissioned in one of the Army’s other career branches.

The basic zone of consideration for the April board will include Regular Army officers of Year Group 2011 with dates of rank to first lieutenant of April 1, 2012, through March 31, 2013. The board selection process is not open to officers of the National Guard or Army Reserve.

Applicants also must have a bachelor’s degree or higher, or be enrolled in a degree-completion program. Officers in the latter category must be awarded a degree before the start of their branch qualification course.

Upon selection by the board, an officer’s control branch will be changed by Human Resources Command to facilitate the officer’s training and branch qualification.

An officer’s basic branch will not be changed until graduation from the branch qualification course. The officers will incur a 36-month active-duty service obligation, beginning on the graduation date. For application specifics, see MilPer Message 13-175, dated July 15.
