GROTON, CONN. — A Navy attack submarine is returning to its homeport in Groton following a six-month deployment.
The Springfield is expected at the Naval Submarine Base on Monday afternoon.
The Los Angeles-class submarine has traveled more than 34,000 miles and conducted operations in Europe and the Middle East since leaving Connecticut in late January.
Springfield is the fourth Navy vessel to be named for cities in Illinois and Massachusetts. It was commissioned in 1993.
