Jury selection for the court-martial of Brig. Gen. Jeffrey A. Sinclair, who is charged with sexually assaulting a female subordinate, is set to begin this morning at Fort Bragg, N.C.

The panel selection process is expected to last several days, according to a post spokesman. Attorneys may question potential jurors during the voir dire process set to begin next week.

The plan was to have 12 potential jurors who are general officers at the start of the questioning. The attorneys must end with a minimum of five members for the panel.

The trial has been scheduled for Sept. 30, the Fayetteville Observer reported Tuesday.

Sinclair, a 27-year Army veteran, faces charges that include forcible sodomy, indecent acts, violating orders and adultery. On Monday, he pleaded not guilty. .

He could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted of the most serious offenses.

The female captain at the heart of the case has said she carried on a three-year sexual relationship with Sinclair, a married father of two. Adultery is a crime under military law.

She testified at the evidentiary hearing that she repeatedly tried to break off the affair with Sinclair, who she says threatened to kill her and her family if she told anyone about their frequent sexual liaisons in hotels, headquarters and war zones.
