Good news for troops and veterans on the road for the Fourth of July: All active-duty service members, reservists and veterans can enjoy a free meal July 4 at one of 170 TA TravelCenters or Petro Truck Stops nationwide. Affiliated restaurants include Iron Skillet, Country Pride and other sit-down eateries.

“We know that about one-third of drivers in the trucking industry are military veterans,” Tom O’Brien, president and CEO of TravelCenters, said in a statement. “Not only did they serve our country in the armed forces, they continue to serve by ensuring the safe and reliable transport of goods across the country; often times away from their families for days and weeks at a time.”

Participating restaurants will also encourage all customers to make a donation to the National Military Family Association’s Operation Purple program, which offers free camps for children of deployed service members and military families reintegrating after deployment.

The free meals, up to a $15 value, are available to all who can provide proof of service, including a military ID, current Leave and Earnings Statement, veterans organization card, photograph in uniform, DD 214 discharge form, or citation or commendation.
