HONOLULU — A former military dog trainer says she used a spray can of disinfectant to induce two pit bulls to stop an attack on a beagle and its 72-year-old owner in Ewa Beach.
Lisa Kesterson tells KHON-TV the woman was walking her beagle Sunday morning when the dogs attacked.
Witness Angela Kelly said the dogs broke through a gate at the home.
Kesterson said the woman tried to fend the pit bulls off with a stick.
Kesterson grabbed a can of Lysol and sprayed the dogs in the eyes, nose and mouth, which she said disorients a dog.
The woman suffered bite wounds to her hands and arms. The beagle underwent surgery and is expected to recover.
The Humane Society issued dangerous dog citations to the pit bulls’ care giver.
