A new, free brochure from the Education Department and Student Loan Servicers is available to service members who want to know more about their education benefits, as well as veterans concerned about repayment.
“For Members of the U.S. Armed Services: What You Need to Know About Your Federal Student Loan Benefits” covers such tips as deferring repayment when you separate from service, changing your repayment plans based on income and managing your account online. Active-duty members can learn more about establishing power of attorney and placing an active-duty alert on their credit reports to prevent fraud.
The brochure is available at www.studentaid.ed.gov/resources#military-loan-benefits; click on “Military Student Loan Benefits.”
