FORT CAMPBELL, KY. — Families and friends will be meeting loved ones this week at Fort Campbell, where more soldiers are returning from Afghanistan to the post on the Kentucky-Tennessee border.
The post said about 240 soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team, known as the “Rakkasans,” are due home Tuesday night. The soldiers have been in Afghanistan for nine months.
A plane carrying nearly 90 members of the unit returned Sunday night, and another 170 members came home April 26.
On Wednesday, about 100 members of the 101st Airborne’s 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, or the “Wings of Destiny,” will complete the unit’s return, and brigade commander Col. Paul Bontrager will also be welcomed back.
