Pentagon announces Air Force general officer assignments

The Defense Department announced the following assignments today:

Maj. Gen. Joseph S. Ward Jr., commandant, Joint Forces Staff College, National Defense University, Norfolk, Va., to deputy director, Air Force Quadrennial Defense Review, Office of the Vice Chief of Staff, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.

Brig. Gen. Michael A. Fantini, commander, 82nd Training Wing, Air Education and Training Command, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, to commander, Kandahar Airfield, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan, U.S. Central Command and commander, 451st Air Expeditionary Wing, Air Combat Command, Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Brig. Gen. Scott A. Kindsvater, deputy chief, support/security assistance, Office of Defense Representative-Pakistan, U.S. Central Command, Islamabad, Pakistan, to commander, 82nd Training Wing, Air Education and Training Command, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas.

Brig. Gen. Jon A. Norman, director, U.S. Air Forces in Europe-United Kingdom, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Royal Air Force Mildenhall, United Kingdom, to commander, 31st Fighter Wing, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Aviano Air Base, Italy.

Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel announced May 8 that President Obama has made the following nomination:

Air Force Col. Andrew P. Armacost has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general and for assignment as dean of the faculty, U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.
