SOMERSET, Pa. — An Air Force veteran must spend one to 23 months in jail and repay more than $5,000 she stole from a Vietnam veterans organization in southwestern Pennsylvania.
The (Somerset) Daily American reports that 39-year-old Lorrie Sue Fisher of Friedens was sentenced Thursday. She had pleaded guilty in February to stealing the money from the Somerset County Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 587 when she served as the group’s bookkeeper for two months in 2010.
Public defender Michael Kuhn said Fisher is working hard to make restitution, and she apologized at her sentencing, saying, “I know what I did was truly wrong.”
The money was earmarked to buy flowers for the families of dead veterans and a county courthouse memorial installed last year that had to be changed for lack of funds.
