3 PATHS TO A&P CERTIFICATION
There are three pathways for airmen to pursue the highly valued FAA Airframe & Powerplant certification:
Documented experience. Aircraft maintenance technicians may be eligible to pursue FAA A&P certification based on documented evidence of 30 months practical aircraft maintenance experience in airframe and powerplant systems. For the rules, see Title 14, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 65, Certification: Airmen Other Than Flight Crew Members; Subpart D-Mechanics.
Technician school. Airmen who cannot meet FAA eligibility requirements based on documented experience can attend an FAA-approved Part 147 Aircraft Maintenance Technician school.
