The commanding officer of a Navy operational support center was relieved Wednesday for “inappropriate behavior,” the second Reserve NOSC boss dismissed in March.
Reserve Capt. Jay Bowman, CO of NOSC Fort Dix, N.J., was fired due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command, according to a Navy news release. He has been temporarily reassigned to Naval Support Activity Lakehurst, N.J. Rear Adm. Bryan Cutchen, head of Navy Reserve Forces Command, made the decision.
“Capt. Bowman exhibited inappropriate behavior for a commanding officer, and that was ultimately noticed and reported by those assigned to his command,” Johnny Michael, an NRFC spokesman, said. “An investigation into those reports validated the concerns, and CNRFC lost confidence in Bowman's ability to lead.”
The investigation's administrative process has not been finalized, Michael said. Lt. Cmdr. Derek Dwyer, executive officer at NOSC Fort Dix, will serve as interim CO.
On Monday, NRFC announced the March 19 firing of Lt. Cmdr. Jack O'Neill, CO of NOSC Rock Island, Ill., which stemmed from alleged hazing and command climate problems, the Navy said.
