RECOGNIZING THE SKILLS
Here are cash bonus amounts for eligible enlisted soldiers in two military occupational specialties:
MOS Title/Incentive
09L Interpreter/translator (PF, PG, PV) EB/ACASP $10,000 (3 years) $15,000 (4 years) $20,000 (5 years) $40,000 (6 years)
35P Cryptologic linguist EB/ACASP/LRP $10,000 (3 years) $15,000 (4 years) $20,000 (5 years)
Key to acronyms:
EB: Enlistment Bonus Program
ACASP: Army Civilian Acquired Skills Program
LRP: Loan Repayment Program
PF: Persian-Farsi
PG: Persian-Afghan-Dari
PV: Pushtu-Afghan
The Army's dwindling menu of enlistment bonus opportunities remains frozen at two specialties, a reflection of the service's ongoing success at recruiting quality for the active component.
Under changes to the Enlistment Bonus Incentive Program announced Jan. 11, only MOS 09L, interpreter/translator, and 35P, cryptologic linguist, remain linked to traditional enlistment bonuses.
Five years ago, as the Army was growing, enlistment bonuses were available in nearly 80 military occupational specialties.
Bonus amounts under the updated program range from $10,000 to $40,000 for enlistments of three to six years in MOS 09L, and $10,000 to $20,000 for enlistments of four to six years in 35P.
Enlistments in 09L are restricted to native speakers of Persian-Farsi, Persian-Afghan-Dari and Pushtu-Afghan.
In addition to the restrictions on regular enlistment bonuses, special incentives remain suspended for seasonal bonuses, the HiGrad bonus program and the Army College Fund.
The Army continues to offer special incentives to certain enlistees for Ranger duty, airborne duty, the Loan Repayment Program and the Army Civilian Acquired Skills Bonus Program.
