FAIRBANKS, Alaska — The Boston's franchise in Fairbanks is pledging to donate a portion of its proceeds to Team USO.

The pledge comes a week after the The Gourmet Pizza franchise came under scrutiny when its manager posted on his personal Facebook page a statement criticizing members of the military who constantly expect discounts.

The manager's posting did not mention Boston's, but it went viral and angered some local residents.

Both the local franchise and the company's headquarters in Dallas disavowed the manager's comments.

The restaurant already offers a 10 percent discount to active and retired military personnel.
