Planned MilPDS shutdown postponed

After months of warning airmen to prepare for a shutdown of its military personnel data system in December, the Air Force Personnel Center called the whole thing off.

AFPC spokesman Mike Dickerson said the upgrade of MilPDS is being delayed to allow more time to test and validate the new system. Dickerson said the delay is expected to have minimal impact on airmen, who have been warned since September to heed deadlines regarding actions that might affect their pay, such as re-enlistment, retirement and separation.

Airmen who were planning to put in paperwork for early retirement and separation under the 15-month waiver authority can still do so until Nov. 16, he said, and personnel actions taken based on earlier deadlines imposed for the shutdown will remain valid.

Dickerson said these processes will revert back to standard guidance and timelines:

Scheduling oral proficiency interviews, Defense Language Proficiency Tests for foreign language proficiency bonuses.

Applying for re-enlistments and enlistment extensions.

Completing base-of-preference applications.

Completing in-place base-of-preference applications.

Applying for voluntary retraining.

Updating Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance policies.
