Airman accidentally shoots himself in leg

BOISE, Idaho An active duty airman at Mountain Home Air Force Base accidentally shot himself in the leg while disassembling a gun in a vehicle outside a relative's home in Elmore County.

The sheriff's office said a family member called 911 at 6:15 p.m. Sunday and the 19-year-old man was taken by air ambulance to a Boise hospital.

Deputy Ray Page told the">Idaho Statesman that the bullet did not appear to hit an artery, and the injury was not believed to be life-threatening.

Page said the man failed to unload the gun before disassembling it.
