RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany An airman stationed in Germany has died in a fire at his off-base apartment, U.S. military officials said.

Authorities at Ramstein Air Base on Monday identified the victim as 26-year-old Airman 1st Class Robert J. Hernandez from El Paso, Texas.

Authorities said Hernandez died at his home in Otterberg, Germany, in the fire Sunday.

Investigators believe the fire broke out in the kitchen, then engulfed the entire apartment. Military officials did not provide details about a possible cause of the blaze.

Hernandez was assigned to the 86th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron of the 86th Airlift Wing at Ramstein.
