A new Air Force Recruiting Service standard instituted Nov. 25 tightens restrictions on recruits' tattoos. The regulation prohibits any body art on the "saluting arm," as well as tattoos above the collarbone that would be revealed by a shirt with no collars. AFRS has now delayed enforcement of the rule for 30 days, after news reports surfaced of recruits who had been approved and were ready to report for basic training, but were being turned away because of their tattoos.
